I have a Mustang that I would love to run one of the Modified classes with, my question is on the cylinder heads. I know I can not use the Dart Pro 1's I have now, but I have a chance to pick up a set of Ford Motorsport M6049-J302 heads. Are these legal? they have a Ford part #. I have not been able to get ahold of anyone at NHRA between my work hours and them in the midst of event after event and all.
I would love to try my hand at SS racing, but do not want to completely rebuild my whole setup just to fit in. I used to love racing Comp, but can not afford that anymore. Lately I have been racing NMRA/NMCA races but it takes alot of $$$ to travel the whole circut. Looking to run mostly Divisionals and maybe some local association races. My son is getting old enough to race the big car next year so he will be in a new Dragster trying his hand at brackets and S/C, would love to race divisional events with him, but dont want to do the S/G S/ST thing myself Just not into that. Thanks... |

As long as the head has a Ford part number you are OK.

Ford V-6 is definately NOT competitive against the GM stuff, 20 year old technology just doesn't cut it. However the parts are readily avaliable also they seem to be very durable although slow. A gentleman in Colorado has most any part you would require. Joe

Well 'Joe your stuff seems to run pretty good for old stuff. And a head porter told me the 380-j head was pretty good when it sat next to some gm stuff in a comp engine.

Yeah the J-380 head is not too bad, however to make these things really run requires alot of R&D which equals Cubic dollars. Truth be known I'm only aware of 3 guys running the Ford V-6 in drag racing, so not much developement going on. I've been fortunate enough to have several good freinds help me with my stuff or I'm sure it wouldn't run as well as it does. After this economy straightens out I may try and bring this stuff closer to the GM stuff until then I'm just glad the bad fast guys live far from me.Joe
