Default Pinion Angle

With car on level surface where is best place to put protractor to check/adjust pinion angle?

I always drop the shaft but that is my preference

Only trust the yoke if it's a machined billet piece from Strange or Mark Williams . .....The forged or cast type are sometimes ground ,not machined at the U- bolt surface. ...........this method works well otherwise. ..Tom
