I was told long ago by a guy at ATI, the bracket cars don't get the same converters we do. Those don't "hit" as hard due to the poorer track conditions they often encounter.
Ditto the "10.5" shoot out" cars. Apples & oranges.

With my little 3240 lb, 350" SS car, radials were usually almost two 10ths quicker before I had it back-halved. 10.5" tires back then. have not tried bigger bias tires yet. Can't spin these suckers.
