Front end height question
Going to install a pair of Landrum springs.
If the ride height is too high do I cut them or exchange them for a lighter pair? |
Re: Front end height question
I would exchange if you can!

Re: Front end height question
Don't cut them. Let the car settle on the new springs. Best to get the car on 4 scales and see what the corner weights are, with and with out a driver Check RR for Preload..

Re: Front end height question
From one rate to the next, it will change the ride height about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches. It?s not an exact figure, but it?s a good ballpark to go off of. If you need the car to set less than 2 inches from where it is now, you will either shim it or trim a small amount off of the spring. Depending if it?s too high or too low.
It usually settles very little. But they will settle a little bit. If you have any questions, feel free to call me 717-793-6819. |
Re: Front end height question
In my experience, a Landrum will settle a little bit then be good. The other spring people use will settle through the life of the spring and need replaced eventually.
I will trim a spring, but not much. 1/2 a coil maybe. Even trim a bit more on one side if needed. Trimming the spring changes the rate. |
Re: Front end height question
If you trim coil springs, a very accurate rule of thumb is that for every inch you want to reduce ride height, cut half an inch of spring height. For a 2" ride height reduction, cut 1" of coil spring height off.

that?s another rule of thumb to go on. Thank for bringing that up |

Marty, One of the pains was every other year replacement of the front spring on the F-Body. I wondered if this was still down in the box, so I just walked down and looked. Here's my old templet for the Moroso 210s in that car of Hunztberrys. With the Morosos, on this car, I found you could cut...not much movement. Cut the same amount.... not nearly enough. Another inch, same thing. Simply cut that same amount and the car drops 2 solid inches! You just ruined a set of springs. For that reason, I kept a templet. If I would have kept it, this was going to be on the to do list. Landrums ....

I?ll be starting with a pair of 200?s to replace the cut old Moroso spring that are almost on the bump stops.
