73 340 or 74 360 for stock?
Have a Duster. Wanting to build for stock eliminator. Both engines fit same
class with 360 car holding a few more pounds. |

Either one work OK.
Both are factored pretty hard and not cheap to build competitively. |

If you have the parts the low compression 340 is a great motor. I think they are more durable than the 360. The pistons are fairly lite, the small main bearings and the small valve heads have good velocity, making a great reving little motor. It doesn’t make enough power to beat itself up.
For the most part the racers have maxed it out, so you won’t be seeing any big hp changes. From what we have learned over the years is the only thing a 340 and 360 have in common Is their appearance. They are two completely different animals. What works on one doesn’t work on the other. Look at the Vegas qualifying, 4 or 5 340’s and 1 360. George Mirza |
