Excessive Braking in Super Stock
This morning in SStock watching video from starting, excessive braking and car looked out of shape, & tire smoke. Is Jerry Emmons the only one that gets DQ?

Re: Excessive Braking in Super Stock
We’ve been debating that on Facebook. Not knocking the racer that did this, even though last year he BLASTED Jerry Emmons on here about doing it, but the rules need to be interpreted evenly. I’ve braked hard and so have most people on here. But when there’s tire smoke and an obvious loss of control that’s when the rule is supposed to kick in. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. But Jerry didn’t smoke the tires nor lose control so at this point I’m dumbfounded.

Re: Excessive Braking in Super Stock
A note of Clarification:
My name is John Irving = A 70ish slightly plump Senior Citizen. I post quite regularly on this site as I am sure everybody is aware. My son is Jon Irving = A 20 something young man. He very seldom if every posts anything on this site. The statements that I post here are strictly and only my own personal opinions and impressions. They are assuredly NOT those of my sons or our crew ...... certainly it is patently unfair to assail them for my statements however much you may disagree or dislike me (Or probably Both). That being said: My son immediate upon exiting the track took responsibility for his bad judgement and terrible display of lack of driving skill. Indeed, he fully expected to be thrown out of the race and would have accepted that without any further discussion! We are grateful to NHRA for the warning and understand that there will be no further warning given to him this year. I can only speculate that the consideration that he races a dozen Divisional and National races for the last 10 years without a single incident or issue (500 plus passes) = may have influenced NHRA's decision on how to handle the incident. I also immediately communicated to him my disappointment with the situation ......He does fully understand further issues may mean that we may park our team for a period of time. He further apologized to the Torres Team for his actions. |

John, I'm not surprised to see that you're a man of character.

Re: Excessive Braking in Super Stock
Although not a written rule, I am under the belief that there usually is a warning given before some other action is given. Once, I received a warning, written from Danny Gracia, that I was not allowed to leave my visor up when I leave the starting line, and if I did it again further action could result.
I heard an announcer comment about a SC dragster driver, in AZ, flipped his shield down after leaving the line. Even Greg Anderson was warned before being fined $5K for raising his before exiting the track. Dan SC 4698 |
Re: Excessive Braking in Super Stock
Sounds like both John and Jon are stand up kind of people. Thanks for the response to the issue John.
