Timeing Chain Gear info

They always say take notes and save directions,,,,Oh well I am getting old. I missplaced my directions for my Cloyes timeing chain. Can anybody tell me what the symbols on the crank gear are. I advanced the cam when I rebuilt the motor, now I want to put the timeing straight-up. The symbols on the gear are, " O" the next is,a triangle, and the next is a square. I hope the circle is for the factory set-up,cause thats where I just changed it, and the others are for 2 degrees advanced and 2 degrees retarded

You are correct, the triangle is advance, the rectangle is retard, and the O is straight up. By the way, those key ways usually move the cam 4 degrees, not 2.

Thanks Alan, you are right on the 4 degrees. I was reading and old How to Hotrod Small Block Chevy book and they were referring to 2 degree bushing in the cam gear. I told you I am getting old.

Tim,

Make sure that you pull the gear and put it back on the correct keyway that matches the "0" mark. Have seen a few customers that just moved to the other timing mark and the results are not pretty :(
