Q-jet ?
I HAVE A Q-JET OFF A MER-CRUSER BOAT MOTOR.
The needle and seat is different from all the car stuff I have seen. It's not the strip-out replacement part. It's not the old style (65/66) enclosed seat. The difference is this. The thing looks exactly like every other one I have seen. Except the needle its self has a small spring loaded check ball at the top, ON THE TIP THAT COMES IN CONTAT WITH THE FLOAT.??? Anyone on here ever see this could you explain what it's for? One more thing, this carb has the largest, longest, plastic stuffer block I have ever seen. I assume the stuffer block is to allow a low float level in a boat to prevent fuel slosh. I don't know it's just a crazy looking thing to me. Thanks in advance for the help. Glen |
Re: Q-jet ?
I've seen a couple of marine Q-Jets like that. The spring loaded needle & seat helps with fuel slosh during tight turns. -Al

Re: Q-jet ?
The new kit has one without the ball. Do you think it will be ok?

Re: Q-jet ?
I would not use a needle that does not have spring stabilization in a boat, if the original had one in it. The rough ride you get in a boat on the water bounces the float around a lot, and you'll have problems with keeping a stable fuel level in the float bowl. A Q-Jet is fairly sensitive to fuel level for metering purposes.
