Clutch assisted or clutchless

I have been running a old jerico clutch assisted trans in my SS/I camaro. I shift it cluchless. No issues except on the graph the rpm"s spike on the gear change. Was told this is because the clutch assisted trans goes thru a neutral gate on the shift. Does this not happen with a clutchless trans.? Looking to buy a new trans. and was thinking of going with a true clutchless version.

No spike on the clutchless, the split slider stays in one gear untill the slider touches the shifted gear and releaces the previous gear. Will also be a few hun quicker.Tip, just get the split slider on 1-2 ,will stay in gear in high if you let off or clutch it & easyer to drive through pits if you can run it in third.(Jerico)

Thanks for the response Jeff. May not want full clutchless trans if it can pop out of gear that easily. I have never driven a clutchless trans. My jerico stays in gear on-off throttle, on brakes, whatever in high gear when bracket racing. May check into that 1-2 slider as that's where it spikes the highest.

Although I like the clutchless trans overall, it is a real pain to drive around in the pits. You hold the shifter in gear with all of your strength, if you let off the throttle or hit a bump (anything that allows the gear to unload) it will jump out of gear and it's pretty much impossible to hold it in. The only way to put it back in gear at that point is to come to a full stop and reengage the shifter, there's always some guy right on your tail when this happens that's pissed off trying to figure out what you're doing holding him up. The other problem that I run into is 1/8 mile racing, I cross the finish line in 4th (I have a 5 speed) which means you only get one shot a hitting the brakes on blipping the throttle at the stripe before the shifter kicks into neutral, don't nurse the illusion that you somehow can strong arm the shifter, ain't going to happen.

Several guys have had problems. I don't have one so no first hand experience. And if your thinking about changing your DR4 over to clutchless even Jerico will tell you its a bad idea. That's what I was told anyway. Save your pennies and buy a Liberty.

Split slider 1-2 Jerico DR-4. Switched all mine over to this set up and love it. Ran the same trans all year with no issues. 150+ runs.:) SS/I 69 camaro 302.
