10 bolt pinion yoke on a 12 bolt pinion gear?

Hello,

What is the advantage of using a 10 bolt yoke on a 12 bolt gear. I was told that there was a strength advantage. Is this true? I really didn't know that they were interchangeable.

What is to be considered? Are there any other related parts that need to be changed?

Thanks,
Johnny

It seems to me I did that about 20 years ago. It wasn't for strength, but more for availability. I think you have to research an oddball pinion seal.

The pinion seal that works is from a mid-80's Chevy full size 4wd 1/2 ton for the front differential.

On a related subject:
I have heard that there is an available pinion bearing, or bearings, that will allow you to put 12 bolt GM car gears in a 12 bolt pickup housing.
Has anyone got any info on such a swap?
Thanks
