Stock Carb Substitutes

I am looking for input on legal carbs for stock.

The engine specs list the carb numbers and sizes for each engine. If you run a specific combo, can you use the same type carb from another engine, as long as the size matches?

For example, I run a 70 340 with the AVS. There are a number of AVS carbs for the 383 or earlier 340s that have different carb numbers, but have the same measurements. Is it legal to run one of these in place of the correct 70 carb?

Also, anyone in IHRA, I run mine in Pure Stock, do you know if it would be legal to due this, if it is legal in regular stock.

Thanks for the input.

Yes for NHRA. The numbers are meaningless but the specs are.

I have been told the same specifically for a 340 AVS. I think the blueprint sheet shows only a couple of different carb numbers, but Jeff is right that NHRA only really cares about specs.

Don't the different Mopar AVS have flow correction tabs ( I forgot the tech name) placed on boosters in different places to compensate for flow difference in manifolds on 340 and 383? I always run 340 carbs on 340 and 383 carbs on 383. Does anyone else think it make a difference?
