rear gear manufacturer success?
just curious as to which manufacturer of rear gears are people using and with what success?
I had the rear gears fail (shredded the teeth) at ATCO this weekend and need to replace them. In the past we have gotten 250-300 runs out of a set of gears, but this no longer seems to be the case? anyone have a manufacturer that they would recommend? We are typically careful to set up the gears correctly, however, I recently purchased this car and have no idea how many runs were on the gear set. any help would be gretaly appreciated, Thank You! Richmond "PRO" Gear

X2 on the Richmond pro gear. I ran street gears for many years, but wound up switching to the pro gears after tearing up a couple of street gear sets. This was running low 11's in a 3800 lb. car.

Re: rear gear manufacturer success?
Richmond Pro Gears, in my experience, will last very well. With an auto trans foot & brake will last for many seasons. With trans brake and heavier cars, higher power, still last for 100's of runs. (of course, this is a general rule)

The Pro gears are holding up, but I've had several customers experiance your type of failure with the street gears..........This has been going on for 3-4 years now. 9",12bolt ,even Dana60 ..........Tom

Re: rear gear manufacturer success?
Does anyone here use cryo or the mikronite process on their rear end gears ?
And does it help in the lifespan of gears ? |
Re: rear gear manufacturer success?
Jim Bailey just did cryo on my gears. He does great work.

Re: rear gear manufacturer success?
Regardless of who you choose to get your gears from, ship 'em off to Jim Bailey at FINISHED (finishedracing.com). REM & Cryo treatments together make them last longer *and* roll more freely, which I hadn't considered! Found a little ET in my car. The Pro Stock and Comp guys have learned the secret. It's actually pretty cheap, too.

Re: rear gear manufacturer success?
Send any gear set, street or pro to Jim Bailey and have them Cryoed and rem finished. They will last longer, turn more freely and the cost is minimal. Turn around time is fast. Go to http://www.finishedracing.com.
