Axle preference ???
Hi Guys
WE broke a rear axle (strange) at the PRP points meet this weekend. We are replacing both axles and the spool. Anybody have any preferences between strange, moser, and mark williams? We had probably 500 runs on this pair (8 year old 12-bolt chevy rear with a trans brake). Tom Sheehan GT/IA 1046 |
Re: Axle preference ???
Thomas, the best stuff is the big Mark Williams. If you have a 3.250" bore differential case (comes in a station wagon or in the good aftermarket housing) Mark Williams has some really stout pieces.

Re: Axle preference ???
I've broke atleast 15 rear ends in my race car. What would break is the caps on the rear olding the ring gear in and move the ring gear out of the pinion, in turn breaking the pinion. What im getting at is out of all of the breakage, its never hurt a 31 sline moser axle. Thats pretty damn tuff if you ask me.

Re: Axle preference ???
I like my Tom's axles and spool.....one broken axle in 2700+ runs, after I did a stupid thing swapping the axles side to side during a hurried up gear change.....
www.tomsdifferentials.com Only other choice would be the M/W setup, but those are matched splines that don't interchange with anyone else's. Tom also offers the alloy cap kit for 12-bolts, highly recommended!!!! |
