25 to 30 runs on synthetic
Knock wood, everything looks just as good as when it goes together Frank |
Re: how often should u change oil on a stocker
My 302 Ford was not a real high RPM piece, but I would change the oil once a season, and everything always looked great when it was time to freshen up. Bear in mind, I did not normally run the ultra thin "magic oils" that many do, I would run Brad Penn 10-30 semi synthetic. I use the same oil in my low 10 second bracket car, and again run the same oil all year. Now, for me, a full season is usually only 60-80 passes, if you run a lot more races , and go a lot more rounds, thats a different story.

Every second race for me. Oil's cheap. Engines aren't. Plus I don't run a filter. One less thing to worry about. Six S/S years - no problems.

Do you have a data logger because it takes hundreds of readings every second to confirm what your oil pressure actually is??? Mechanical oil pressure gauges use an orifice (jet) to dampen the gauge response and can lead to undiagnosed low oil pressure. 4 liters (4.2 quarts) might not be enough oil if you are using a 1 quart oil filter.... Do you run 4 liters of oil all of the time????? Why not baffle the pan and add another liter or 2??? It could starve on acceleration or de-acceleration.... Oil is cheap insurance... Just sayin' |
Re: how often should u change oil on a stocker
I want to know what happened so it doesn't happen again .
no data logger never seen low pressure on launch, it fluctuates on top end even though we have a trap door . 4 litres in pan and one in filter usually run 4 litres there is a baffle under the pump and the trap door I will be adding more oil I run a stock pump, should I run a HV , that would empty the pan even quicker or not ? perhaps the rods have too many passes. just trying to correct what happened , thanks for any advise . |
Re: how often should u change oil on a stocker
What weight oil and any screens in lifter gallery. What about detonation hammering rods?
|
Re: how often should u change oil on a stocker
Kevin , also the drain backs beside the lifters are plugged ,5 w 30 semi synthetic and yes screens in the valley......
|
Re: how often should u change oil on a stocker
If you have those drains plugged then it might be trapping too much oil in the top if you don,t have it vented some how. Ran into this years ago
