Converter/trans issue
Few weeks ago running my car first run 60’ was where it should be but then come up on the 1-2 shift it hesitated but shifted, then the 2-3 did the same thing hesitated like it was on a limiter but shifted but then wouldn’t make it past 1000’ as it wouldn’t rev over 7,000… Checked things thinking it was electrical made another hit and when it left, it left like it was in high gear. Coasted down the track and shifted the car by hand and it shifted fine.
I thought it had broke a converter, got home sent Converter to ATI they called yesterday and said converter is fine. Tore transmission apart and it looks brand new other than the Static (plastic) washer for the input& output shafts end play clearance was destroyed. So it had about 100 thousandths or more end play. Anyone else experience something similar? Or could that shaft clearance being so much cause some oil passages to be blocked restricting flow etc? This is a Metric 200 Transmission in a 97 Firebird LT1 set up. Thanks |
Re: Converter/trans issue
How was the back half clearance?

Re: Converter/trans issue
I hope you find the issue.
May sound stupid, but are you sure you have enough Tranny fluid? Maybe you installed a deeper trans pan? Correct length pickup on filter? Band adjustment? RJ |

The stock anchor pin can shear off, and there is a better one in the aftermarket. But you bring up a good point. If the front half clearance is excessive, then the direct drum can **** (that would be **** , for the sensors) (how about go cokeyed?) and rock , and maybe cause the sealing rings to fail. Maybe we'll find out when our friend comes back. ;-) |
