What combo are these guys running ?

Does anyone knows what combo Dan Jacobs and Ernie Neal ran at Indy ? Those guys were very impressive ! Thanks !!

Dan runs 305 fuel injection @ 235 hp, not sure what year he is claiming. I'm running the baby LT1 94 Caprice 265 cube 4.3 V8 engine @ 200 hp.

We both run Heads up cylinder heads. Stephen Belanger builds Dans and I build my own. I use Jeff Taylor for most of my machining.

I will not be running this combination any longer for NHRA removed the manual transmission factor in GT. It was released today and shows effective 1/1/19 in the guide.

What is the reasoning for removing the combo when someone is currently using it?

It was never built that way.

Curious as to how something like that gets into the guide?

Not enough research; human error. That data doesn't just appear, someone has to consciously make the decision what to enter and then deliberately type it in.

A job well done by Ernie for choosing and building this obscure combo. Unfortunately , qualifying on the pole at INDY ruffled a few feathers. A few complaints to Pat C. was all it took to get this combo removed. Now, if I could get these disgruntled racers to complain about all the DEEP sump oil pans in Stock Eliminator I would be happy !!!......

MJ, Yes, Ernie did a great job with it that engine. He said before that it was in the guide so he built it. But you take your chances and then live with it , as Ernie has.
Most people know that they never put stick shifts in the bathtub Caprices. How far do you think anyone would have gotten with the original car , running R/Stock, stick?
It's hard to tell what engine is under the hood of a SS/GT car , from the stands. Announcers rarely ever mention it.
I wouldn't blame disgruntled racers for pointing this one out. I'd place the blame squarely in an office that's about 400 miles west of here.

Ernie would have still qualified #1 with the auto.trans but he is stick shift guru in all his race cars,,and he will find another combo to build

Oh, I am not putting the BLAME on disgruntled racers.....In the new NHRA we must police ourselves .....Don’t forget that Pat C’s Resume includes the AMC aftermarket parts fiasco, the 340 aluminum intake that was OK’ed and then rescinded, and , well....you get the picture loud and clear.
