The 2009 GT/AA Class Shoot Out at Vegas

The 2009 GT/AA Class Shoot Out at Vegas in October . Can anyone defeat The West Coast Heavy Hitter with his Big Block Sunfire Frank "Mr. Ice in Veins " Grossi. Frank won Class last year at Vegas and also won Class at Indy this year . Will anyone be here to challenge Frank or will he win again is a good question ? Rumor has it Phil Mandella is working double over time on Sunfire to keep the money in the West

let me know I will be doing the extra purse for this class again if I have some time . 100 % of the prizes or money will be divided among the Winner ,The runner up ,and number one qualifier per NHRA’s Structure ,.

By the way Frank last year paid for all the racers in GT/AA and crew a huge Steak dinner after the class race which cost a lot for around 30 or so racers especially with drinks lol . The Purse and prizes were really neat that a lot business put up and were really appreciated by the racers big time . So please if a person puts up some Money thank them , if a business puts up some money or prizes do business with them that way everyone wins > It would be cool if a person or business could come up with some tow money for those who live far , far away Let The Fun begin at The 2009 GT/AA Class Shoot Out at Vegas> questions e-mail me donkennedy1@cox.net

Don ~ I don't know where Frank took everyone to dinner last year. I'm assuming it was a restaurant? For Mopars at the Strip we had a dinner catered in our pits. They did a pulled pork, lots of sides. It was really good. Mandella might know who the caterer was. Have fun, this is a cool thing you guys in the class are doing!!

Great Efforts at supporting Class racing. Does anyone else have the same Combo to run against Mr. Grossi? Thats when it will become interesting. Good Luck.

Re: The 2009 GT/AA Class Shoot Out at Vegas

Dick :

By the way Frank had to put in135 lbs of weight last year last due to the factoring , so he showed up in Indy 135 heavier than in Vegas , Come on out GT/AA racers the Fun is in Las Vegas when you can let the car hang out at a altitude track without getting factored , remember what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas . The weather will be great and the Women have the biggest eyes ever ;) LOL Can the East Coast racers come and and take the heavy hitter Frank Grossi down is the question ? or will the Faster GT/AA car stil rein as the best on the East Coast and the West Coast , hey to me any part of the US east of Texas is east to me LOL at me ? I do know Phil Mandella is working hard as usual on a Sunfire:):D;)

It would be cool if we could get a major Sponsor for the Vegas race ? anyone know of a person or company do do this ? By the way Frank paid for the steak dinner for the racers at Weaverlys . Big time pricey a class act for sure from Frank

Dick-

Everyone, including you, had the opportunity to install this combo in a very slippery front wheel drive conversion. We like to call it a "better mousetrap."

Hats off to Frank Grossi, Phil Mandella, Gary Hetler, and anyone else having something to do with that Badboy. All the hardwork has paid off for everyone involved.

Re: The 2009 GT/AA Calss Shoot Out at Vegas

Sean,,, You are totally correct. Everyone can work the books as well as the wrenchs with STK and SS.
That is an important part of the " game" in these classes. Especially knowing the AHFS and the diligence of NHRA factoring. I spent many a year trying to work around 400 Pontiacs with a chevy 283, 400 Chevies with a 305 and after finding GT/AA and a few years more knowledge it was more fun to win with equal equipment. Thats why many enjoy SS/AH because no fear of "book work" class winners only hard work and equal parts.... (and unfortunately big $)
Sorry but no one has answered my question yet, Does anyone else have one yet?
In no way does this mean it is not a great accomplishment.

Jim DeFrank of California Car Covers is putting up a $200 credit to buy any product from the California Car Covers catalog which is more than fair . Must have decal on race car to get the $200. The number one qualifier is accoding to NHRA rules .

A Huge Way To Go Jim and Jimmy for doing this , after all they do not have to do this so all need to get The catalog and see the really neat products . Support the People who Support the racers is a good thing.. :)

Don-

Not that it really matters, but it's 125 lbs. Ron was referring to, I believe, the actual dyno hp numbers of each engine running GT/AA?

I was wondering about nhra factored hp from the classification guide. Example Grossi's car is a 454, but what hp factor? There are alot of different 454s. Just think it would make it more interesting. Thanks guys.:) Ron

Grossi's combo is a 75-76 454-370 h.p. NHRA defactored to 341. Don Kennedy is stating that it used to be 325 hp last year, until it was given another sixteen. Sorry for my confusion.

Hey Don...Stacy here. I hope I'm doin this right, its my first post.

I'm tryin like heck to make it, I broke a rocker arm at the 1000' at Indy and tagged valves. This was easy to fix but we had a temporary stock crank in the motor just to run the race. It developed cracks on 10 dyno pulls and 4 runs, the bearings were perfect!!!! The crank was 1963 421 cast crank and we didnt have time for hardening. waiting on crank from california should have next week...if lucky.

Cameron talked with Colin, I dont think he's coming. Isnt that car cool with the new pieces on it?

Is anyone coming thru Indy that I could get share transport with? If you know anyone please contact me.

Re: The 2009 GT/AA Class Shoot Out at Vegas

Ok an Update

Phil and Tony Mandella of PMR Race Cars in Montclair, California have their whole crew working day and night on my 2005 Sunfire to make sure the car will "Go Right Down Broadway" They have made some really cool mondifications to this car and I hope My Gary McGlasson engine will show up at Vegas . Gary has been working very hard to make sure some issues have been over come.

So we will be at Vegas Tired , Happy and Broke to just see if this combination can even run with My friends Frank ( Ice in Veins) Grossi ( by the way Phil Mandella build Franks car and maintains it also but Tony Mandella likes us better LOL ( Phils Son ), Tom Nolan , The newer kid on the block with a tried and proven combination, Doug Broaddus, Cour , and Casey Setters , darn all these heavy hitters scare me I think lol . if we get there i will be one happy racer just to show up LOL at me ?

Ok Colin bring the wife and Kids we will make sure you all have some fun , we need a token Ford , lol at me again:D> i know Gary Richards You are having a party , change the party to Vegas , we will all be there ?/

The next question Will the other Pontiac Racer Lynn's McCarty brother i for got his name ok it is Stacy will show up unless he is 'scared' he needs another way to get the Old pontiac Out here sharing gas Money to get here ,

oK i am really sure the roads are clear towards the west , and if you have a GT/.AA car show up , then the fun will begin , after all Fank went East I know i saw Frank with my daughter Kati, and (Tom Van Poppel grand TJ is his grand son also)and our Grand son TJ ( we even had some war paint on our cheeks which i got in trouble with Kati and Brian hey TJ and i had a lot of fun ) with my Awesome Son in law Brian Van Poppel watching > :D FYI My Trans Am race car is Going over the ocean to a Another Pontac racer of which when the time is right we will let all know where >

One question I have is how is Tom Nolan going to run an LT1 in GT/AA? His minimum weight would be 2495 at 291 hp. Will he have to run it at a minimum of 2670?

I think Don is the oldest of the bunch. That will have to be factored in somehow. He has not gone faster than 9.70's and this new car will be a little faster. His buddy Steve may be doing more than the usual engine and torque convertor changes. Don may need a diaper change and I'm not talkin' about those darn engine diapers either. :o
