Axle preference ???
Hi Guys
WE broke a rear axle (strange) at the PRP points meet this weekend. We are replacing both axles and the spool. Anybody have any preferences between strange, moser, and mark williams? We had probably 500 runs on this pair (8 year old 12-bolt chevy rear with a trans brake). Tom Sheehan GT/IA 1046 |
Re: Axle preference ???
Thomas, the best stuff is the big Mark Williams. If you have a 3.250" bore differential case (comes in a station wagon or in the good aftermarket housing) Mark Williams has some really stout pieces.

Re: Axle preference ???
I've broke atleast 15 rear ends in my race car. What would break is the caps on the rear olding the ring gear in and move the ring gear out of the pinion, in turn breaking the pinion. What im getting at is out of all of the breakage, its never hurt a 31 sline moser axle. Thats pretty damn tuff if you ask me.

Re: Axle preference ???
I like my Tom's axles and spool.....one broken axle in 2700+ runs, after I did a stupid thing swapping the axles side to side during a hurried up gear change.....
www.tomsdifferentials.com Only other choice would be the M/W setup, but those are matched splines that don't interchange with anyone else's. Tom also offers the alloy cap kit for 12-bolts, highly recommended!!!! |
Re: Axle preference ???
I broke a set of 33 spline strange axles in a 10 sec. car, footbraking, a few years ago. The axles were less than 2 years old, but Strange refused to replace because I was not the origional buyer, even though I had the bill of sale.
Replaced with Moser. Everything looked and fit well. About 2 years later, broke wheel studs at Nat. event in Richmond (probably my fault, used impact gun all the time). Went to the Moser trailer to buy some. Told them what happened, and that I needed to buy some studs. Lady working there gave me two packages, no cost, and told me to come get them if I needed any help! Probably 500 passes later, with no issues at all, sold the car. Great product and customer service... Look what Moser gives back to the racers, with their IHRA shootouts. While I feel MW's has good stuff, is it any better? I like to support those that support me! Moser for me. good luck! |
Re: Axle preference ???
Mark Williams in 4 different cars, never a problem. The fit, finish and quality stand out when you compare the other brands side by side. I have had friends that have twisted Strange stuff all the time. Buy the best, Mark Williams, and you never have to worry about it. Dyno

Re: Axle preference ???
Car built in 1986 with M/W and still going strong. I can only guess that there are over a thousand runs on them. M/W is one of the first checks that you will receive for contingency. Plus they are at National events if you need something. Get the best set up they have first and you're done.

Re: Axle preference ???
I've seen more broken Strange axles than anything, including stock. MW for me.

Re: Axle preference ???
M/W for me also. Very high quality. Put them in and forget about them!
