Clean everything as best you can, then sprinkle some talcum powder around the suspect areas. The red fluid where leaking will really stand out.

This is a great idea ! We used to use spray foot powder just because of the ease of appying it .

There is a kickdown shaft, that the kickdown lever is attached to, that goes down through the center of the shift shaft. Has it's own little lip seal. They will leak as well.

Lots of little places to leak on those, especially an older unit. Some of them will have the cooler and/or converter drain back if it sets for awhile. When that occurs, the leaks show up
