Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
My brother and I are going to talk to the owner tonight to get the inside scoop on the whole car. I am not familiar with Parson & Myers, do they build a lot of stocker engines? If they did the engine work I will give them a call. Thanks

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
The white wagon was a Pure Stocker, the indexes for which are a full second slower than the NHRA Stock indexes. If they entered a Pure Stocker in an NHRA race and ran under the index at all, they were doing quite well.
Among the differences: the Pure Stock cam must check for stock duration and overlap; the stock 80 lb. valve springs must be used; no filled blocks; as well as the OEM type belt-driven water pump, original large pulleys, and steel fan. All of this stuff severely limits the peak rpm and horsepower. |
Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
There was a white chevelle wagon at the Edgewater pts. meet (Aug. 2005) that ran 12.56 on the 12.95 index. David Magee from Morningview Ky. if that is the car in question, it was on Racing Juke for sale some time ago.

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
Those weights you are quoting are for a Impala, Biscayne wagon, this is a Chevelle, a little lighter around 4200 lbs. This is the David Magee car. A guy in Texas now owns it.

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
Talked to the owner last night. The car without driver weighs 4262 lbs.
He said the car runs in the 12.50's consistantly on a 13.75 index. That is humid Texas weather. The best time he ran ever was a 12.02. I don't think that is too bad for a pure stocker. |
Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
long story short it's not a pure stocker!! it was kicked out of Div.3 pure stock ! it's the car that made such a stink a few years ago....all he done to make it a pure stock car was add mufflers & stock pulleys to the car!

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
When did he get booted out of Division 3? Was that when McGee owned the car? The guy who owns the car now ran IHRA F-Pure Stock for 2 seasons in the Texas area and said he never changed anything on the car that David McGee did, he just ran it because the motor was just freshened by Parson & Myers and had no problems with IHRA. I guess McGee was not a favorite of IHRA officials and they went out of their way to screw with him. He said that McGee was torn completly down and they couldn't find a thing. They even took all of the piston/rods out along with the crank. Evedently they went over the motor with a fine tooth comb and came up empty handed.

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
no no no.....piston rod never came out ! and the only thing I saw them check was lift on the cam....in fact Magee had to go get Bruce because of something with the carb! After they spent some time in the tec trailer looking at the books that was let go. OK so here's the long story....2004 Magee was running K/SA IHRA div.3 doing pretty good in the points...thing is their was 2 or 3 other K/SA in div.3 that he may or may not be able to out run heads up....so (& this is what he told me) he said I can't take a chance having to run one of these guys...I'm doing to good in points to loose like that! He said so I put mufflers and the stock pulleys on it & I'm going to run Pure Stock. He also said it slowed the car down about .3 doing that to it. This was @ Tri-State the week before the Kanahawa Valley points meet....I was their trying to work the bugs out of a new motor & he was their seeing what the car would run. the last time I saw him @ an IHRA race with the car was clay-city in 2005 he was running K/SA he told me that IHRA told him he couldn't run Pure Stock with it anymore.

Re: Been Lurking, now ready to ask.
Hey guys,
In our P.M.'s I'm sorry I didn't just come out & tell you it was a 1.50 under combination. (don't worry it is not)I just tried to give you the good points & bad points of the combo as I saw it. I also tried to give you a couple of guys names that were listed in Joe's Stats that ran that 402 engine. There have been very few & I don't think it has been worked completely out. If I remember most of them were mid pack of the classes & and from .75 to 1.00 under. I did say I thought it was slightly underrated. I also tried to say there are more engine combos that are available for that car & a couple of them look good too. In this thread We have had Tony Curcio, who ran the combo, give his blessings. I don't know anything about the specific car your looking at & it's past performance. If you want to see what it really ran in Div 4 take the guys name (number helps too) that ran it & do an advanced search on Drag Race Central. You can pull up all the final qualifying & rounds of each race. I also told you I had been looking at it for a SS/GT combo for my Camaro, not a stocker. I think it is more underrated as a SS combo. Remember I pointed out the pancake intake & small cam were a couple of bad points as a stocker. They will get improved in SS. I personally like those cars & have have always enjoyed watching wagons race. I have always thought it is better to buy a built car rather than build one from scratch. I need to re read what I wright & live by it... looks like I'm the hipocrit because I'm building a 69 Vette for A/SA from scratch. My gut says if it's what you want, it's priced right & it's a legal car. Go for it.. The fun factor could be great. |
