Re: 1965 New Cars and NHRA Classes
Here's a few more shots of the Reynolds Buick Gran Sport from SoCal...there were two cars built after the first one rolled.

Re: 1965 New Cars and NHRA Classes
Moose,
1965 Chevrolet Engines (Biscayne, BelAir, Impala, Impala Super Sport and Caprice) Typical NHRA Class for Biscyane 2-Door Sedan 'Post-Car' The 'base car' was the Biscayne, * BelAir Sedan was 10 lbs. heavier * Impala Coupe was 90 lbs. heavier * Impala Super Sport Coupe was 135 lbs. heavier * Production of the '409' was shut down early in mid-year production. 283/220 HP.........H/S 327/250 HP.........F/S 327/300 HP.........E/S 396/325 HP.........D/S 409/340 HP.........C/S 409/400 HP.........A/S The 1965 Impala Coupe #3570 lbs. with the 327/300 HP was a perfect fit into E/S in 1965. Re: 1965 New Cars and NHRA Classes
Good Hunting........ Hemi Dart Dave
The 409 last came off the production line on February 1, 1965 - but still a production total of 2828 escaped out of GM. The 409/400 HP had a 'special loud noise' at the track, with big tube headers. With 4.56 gears, Headers, 7" Slicks and a good driver (easing off the line), they were one tough combination, and a decent street-strip car could run low 13.00's. But the lighter 396 engine (90 lbs.) was the way to go for 1965, especially on the street. The 396/325 HP for 1965 with the correct 'cheater camshaft' was a decent street-strip car. Production numbers for a 1965 Impala Super Sport with the 396/325 HP engine, an astounding 55,499. Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 12-22-2012 at 01:06 PM. |
