Coming up this weekend is our final race of the CCMP 2024 season as well as our first full season of this series at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park. We will crown our first CCMP Champion at the completion of the Saturday event.
Friday, gates will open around 5 p.m. with a track hosted test-n-tune starting around 6:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Saturday, gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs beginning at 11 a.m. There will be 4 bracket classes competing Saturday as well as CCMP & CCRA. We will also have our Friendsgiving gathering sometime in the afternoon. We will play that by ear based on the racing action. We will have our 2 qualifying runs to establish the ladder for eliminations. Hodges Custom Homes is the Top Qualifier Sponsor with the #1 qualifier receiving $200.00. Our Saturday title sponsor is Wayside Landscapes & Supply (Brad Butler) out of Raeford, NC & the associate sponsor is Yopps Tire & Garage (Ronald Sr. & Ronald Jr) out of Sneads Ferry, NC. The temperatures are showing for cooler weather so I ask all racers to be prepared & report to the staging lanes when you are called & let's have a safe & successful race on Saturday. I am hoping & praying for our 1st ever 8 car field this weekend so y'all racers please come together & make this happen. That would put a big ❗️❗️❗️ on the close of our 2024 season. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park! |

CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association & Carolina Classic Modified Production racers, you will pay us at the registration table for your weekend's entries. Just tell the lady at the gate that you're with CCRA. You will still need to pay for your crew members at the gate. 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ schedule will be released on Saturday morning!
Saturday afternoon is our Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving gathering. We will decide on a time once racing action gets going on Saturday. Carolina Classic Modified Production racers, remember the meeting Sunday morning at 10 a.m. to discuss next year's plan as well as schedule. See everyone soon!! |

Our 1st full CCMP season, contested with CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association is officially in the books for 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣. This was also our first season having a small points championship & boy did it come down to the very end. For the first time ever, we had 8 cars on the property Friday afternoon for Saturday's race day & all race officials (especially myself) was very proud of that accomplishment! We started out making two qualifying runs on Saturday with plans to complete the race on Saturday as schedule. Unfortunately due to weather/track conditions, it was decided to complete the race starting Sunday morning. We had 1 AM, 3 BM, 1 DM, & 3 EM cars. Robbie Draughon AM & Ronnie Yopp DM were the first 2 pairs down the track. Robbie ran a 5.162 at 129.83 mph on his 5.90 index (-.738 under) while Yopp tripped the clocks at a 5.884 at 116.60 mph on his 6.35 index (-.466 under). The 2nd pair was Steve Johnson EM & Strawberry Dixon BM. Steve went -.633 under his 6.50 index running a 5.837 at 115.79 mph while Dixon went -.635 under his 6.01 index running a 5.375 at 128.55 mph. Next pair out was Mark Moreland with a new EM engine combination running -.811 under 🧐😱 his 6.50 index; stopping the clocks at 5.689 at 119.98 mph & putting him at the top of the sheet. Darrion Houston was paired against Mark. Houston went a 5.941 at 115.27 mph on his 6.50 index (-.559 under). Our last pair for Q1 was Brad Smith in the Gary McKee Day Dreamer Corvette & Jeff Hoyle filling the seat of the Darrell Lail owned Camaro while Darrell is still recovering from shoulder surgery. Jeff went a 5.485 at 126.37 mph on his 6.01 index (-.525 under) while Brad went on one hell of a ride with the Corvette which unfortunately sent me (Tabitha) into a full blown panic attack having flashbacks from a June Corvette accident. The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park track manager, Wes called the track EMT to check myself out & then it was decided to call EMS to come check me out at the track. An EKG was performed & I checked out well other than higher than normal blood pressure & an extremely high heart rate & was put in a chair for the most part of the rest of the day.
After all this incident, qualifying round #2 went to the lanes. Draughon AM & Houston EM were the first pair out. Robbie improved on his Q1 run running a 5.125 at 134.11 mph (-.775 under) while Darrion had to abort his run. Dixon BM & Yopp DM were our 2nd pair out. Strawberry also improved over his Q1 run; 5.293 at 128.21 (-.717 under) while Yopp went a tad bit slower running a 5.892 at 115.09 mph (-.458 under). 3rd pair out for Q2 were Hoyle BM & Johnson EM. Neither driver improved over their Q1 runs with Hoyle having to abort his run & Steve running a 5.841 at 116.15 mph (-.659 under). Moreland took a single for Q2 running a 5.726 at 119.33 mph (-.774 under). Smith attempted to make another pass in Q2 but things just weren't right so we pushed him off the track. The ladder was set after the completion of Q2 with putting Mark Moreland at the top of the ladder. He was awarded $200.00 for the Top Qualifier Award courtesy of Mr. Art Hodges & his business Hodges Custom Homes & also an additional $100.00 from Melton & Flynt Racing. The ladder was set with Moreland & Houston have a heads up EM match up, Dixon BM versus Yopp DM, Draughon AM versus Hoyle BM, & Johnson EM versus Smith BM. Strawbery and Yopp was the first pair out for E1 with Dixon taking the win over Ronnie. Strawberry ran a 5.244 at 130.21 mph on his 6.01 index (-.766 under) for his best run of the weekend. Draughon & Hoyle was next pair out. Draughon went a 5.073 at 134.99 mph (-.827 under) while Hoyle had problems during his run & only went a 19.186 at 40.78 mph. Moreland was scheduled to have a heads up EM run against Houston but unfortunately Darrion found some metal in his oil filter when checking his car out on Sunday morning & was unable to make the car for E1. Moreland ran a 5.678 at 120.19, improving on his Q1 run (-.822 under) on the single. Steve Johnson also had a single when the decision was made to park the Day Dreamer Corvette until some chassis adjustments can be made in the off season. Johnson went a 5.867 at 116.28 mph (-.633 under). Round 2 pairings were Moreland EM versus Dixon BM & 1st & 2nd in the points Johnson EM versus Draughon AM. Mark's scoreboard lit up early when Strawberry left -0.064 early. Mark had a 0.057 RT, ran a 5.685 at 120.02 mph (-.815 under) while Strawberry made a full pass running 5.339 at 129.29 mph (-.671 under). The final pairing was delayed until after the completion of TOP ET that round as Draughon's battery went dead at the head of the staging lanes & Johnson showed true sportsmanship by backing to the side & waiting for Robbie to change/add a battery. The round would have huge implications on the points battle but I honestly wouldn't expect any less out of Steve as he has done this before for his competitors. Both guys are about the same at the tree, Robbie 0.069 & Steve 0.060 both Robbie ran his fastest run of the weekend stopping the clocks at 5.070 at 134.94 mph (-.83 under). Johnson ran a 5.854 at 118.22 mph (-.646 under). |
