Default K&N Air Filter Effect Attached To Throttle Body Engine

I would hope someone with some real experience would reply and not the armchair race specialist with book logic only. The example would be an LT1 350 super stock engine that is fuel rail and throttle body equipped. I would think the fuel curve is effected BUT excluding any ET effect the air filter would impose if any, what physical damage can it be placing on the engine ??? Any serious replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We run the single layer K&N filters on our LT1 Stocker, SS, and also our COPO 350. We do it to hopefully keep stuff out of the engine and some of the dust when going down track and especially in the pits. Our little rings appreciate it.

The biggest difference we see fuel curve wise is towards the end of the track in high gear and upper RPM range. It does restrict the airflow in our cars which will richen up the readings a bit. Not enough that we change our fuel map, but we can see it on the logs. It comes off on most all heads up runs.

Rusty -
I ran it on my super stocker, practically back to backed it. For me there was no noticeable difference in ET or MPH...
I haven't tried it on the stocker though.

I agree with these guys. We used to run the cone looking K&N through the pits and then take it off in the staging lanes. If you run a restrictor plate and ALSO run the filter you will notice the car gets kind of slobbery even at part throttle, But filter alone is worth maybe a hundredth or two. IF you run one and win, make sure you pop it back on before heading to the winners circle. I was not paid because the filter was not actually on the car. Sticker yes, product no. Spent several minutes on the phone with the contingency guy from K&N and he was afraid of getting in trouble if he let it ride... The rules, are the rules...

We worked with the people at Spyder filters and they designed the filters for both our throttle body engine as well as the dragster with scoop.

With the information we provided, they explained, in detail, what we could expect and why.

Subsequently, the engine made more power on the dyno and is faster with the filter installed than without.

The round filter with a certain air cleaner base also was an improvement on the carbureted engine.

We're also more comfortable with filters in place.
