Thumbs up 'A friend in need is a friend indeed'

So now that I'm back home after installing a new bullet in the Duster, I can as American treasure Paul Harvey used to say, "tell you the rest of the story"...

As of late this morning I was pretty convinced I wouldn't have a motor to race in Sonoma this coming week. One block was being refreshed after a pretty long tour of duty and the other had just spun a bearing and bent the crank in Fallon, Nevada a couple of weeks back. Things were looking pretty bleak and admittedly though I roll with the punches pretty well, I was majorly down!

That's no longer the case thanks to two extraordinary racers who I'm gonna single out cause they both possess the heart of a lion!

When the Fallon casualty occurred the very next day NHRA Stock racer and funny man extraordinaire Mark Kirby, learning of my plight out of the blue, shipped me two candidate replacement cranks overnight.

Secondly Greg Luneak, Mopar Guru and master machinist of TrI-City Competition took up the challenge of getting things straightened out for me, but warned me it didn't look good for Sonoma with all he had on his schedule... He continued to tell me things weren't looking good as late as this past Tuesday, when he said I'll give you a final answer on Friday(today). So I get him on the phone this morning after returning from a doctors appointment and he says " Pete, that crank you gave me from Kirby was cracked" in the deafening silence of my last hopes shattering across the kitchen floor... I hear "Just kidding, come pick up your motor!

Thank you Gentlemen, I'd say I have no words to express what your efforts mean to me... but I realize you both indeed do, and it's exactly that character that makes you both such special people, racers and makes me so very proud to call you both friends...

Stories like this is what it's all about. Yes, the racing is the main reason people race, but the help when needed is so important.
