Default Turbocharger in Super Street???

I want to run my turbocharged slant-six Valiant in Super Street, but according to this, from the NHRA 2012 rulebook:

SUPERCHARGER, TURBOCHARGER
Permitted only when racing gasoline, gasoline, diesel, or alcohol is
used as fuel. Restricted to standard Roots-type, centrifugal, or
OEM-type screw supercharger.

It would seem I can't.

You know they always say, "If we don't say you can do it, you can't."

Well, nowhere on that Super Street rulebook pages does it say that turbochargers are legal in that Eliminator.

Are they??

Has anyone ever seen a turbocharged car in Super Street at an NHRA points race or national event?

Screw-type positive displacement blowers are specifically allowed, but what about turbos??

I'm confused...

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Bob; I appreciate the info... The rulebook seems self-contradictory to me.

Its always great to think outside the box and try something new, but Do you think you will run into any problems with turbo lag and leaving on a pro tree???

Spool up time will definatly be an issue on a Pro tree.
Not that anyone in the opposit lane would take advantage of that !!
Like the car that Kurt Bush ran at the Gators last year , it might be fun and it certanly will be an interesting car,but in the end it's certanly going to be extremly difficult to be competitive with it.
I'm not certain, but I believe with the turbo in S/ST ,you will need SFI pants and gloves as well as the jacket.

I always thought it was "If they don't say you can't then you can" until the next rule revision.

I believe the Honda in super street has a roots type blower, and the Honda that team runs in comp, has dual turbo"s.

Yes, that would be a major consideration, but with a trans-brake and a high stall converter, the spooling might not be a problem... but probably would.

Turbocharged cars are problematic, to say the least, when it comes to dialing one, but this was just a (probably BAD) idea I had, since there is no place in Comp Eliminator for the car... I was just thinking... (not always a good thing... )

Thanks to everyone for all the replies!

I knew a guy who ran a turbo street-driven Camaro in SST back in the late 80's. I know a couple of people who have run turbo diesel pickups in SST. I plan to run SG or SC occasionally with my new truck I am building (turbo diesel pickup).

I am pretty sure the rule is just laying down restrictions for the superchargers, and effectively is NOT restricting what type of turbos you can run. However there is a section in ET and general regs that increases the firesuit requirement for turbo or nitrous cars without an OEM or 0.024" steel firewall.
