Block to Manifold sealer for Alcohol SBC?
We're running SBC injected alcohol with 3 peice Engler system, can't seem to find the right silicone sealer for the end rails to the block. Our old motor has some blow by, but runs great (leakdown less than 10%). Any secrets out there? Red permatex seems to be the best, but still leaks.Next year with new motor we'll have a vacuum pump and Total Seal rings, but trying to get thru the year.... Any help will be appreciated

Re: Block to Manifold sealer for Alcohol SBC?
I've had great sucess with Mopar p/n 5013477AA sealer adhesive. .....It gets much harder than other RTV sealants ,and seems to be impervious to most solvents once it hardens.... ....It's a little pricy@about $20.00 list price,a tube ,but it works better than any other sealant I've ever tried............It is the only sealant that would work on the end rails on my friends BBC nitro Nostalga TF car. ......Tom

I have been told Great Stuff works very well for this but have not used it myself. I can tell you that if you have alcohol injection and no vacuum pump your going to have a tough time keeping those ends seals in place. I had the same problem and could not make it stay sealed without a vacuum pump and I tried various fixes.....

Re: Block to Manifold sealer for Alcohol SBC?
Ditto on the Permatex Ultra Black - use it for just about everything. Had one issue in the past on a Brodix intake that kept blowing oil out the end rails. No matter what I did, it wouldn't hold. What I found out and had corrected with a little milling work was that the gap at the end rails wasn't large enough. The gap was probably on the order of .015-.020, we took another .020 off the rails, used the Ultra Black and never had another issue with it. Oh and we run alky too.

Ultra Gray is my favorite, it seems to seal well even if there is a little oil on the surface, and is very dense when dry.

I stay away from all the "ultra" sealers ... way to runny. I like the black or clear ADHESIVE Silicone sealants ....must say "adhesive". Run your bead, let it "skin" up and put your manifold on. You won't have any problems.
