Default Race #5 & #6 Rockingham Dragway

It's Monday which can only mean one thing: it's time to get "geared" up for another race weekend. CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association will invade The Legendary Rockingham Dragway for the first time this Saturday, August 19th & Sunday, August 20th. Gates will open on Friday for early parking at 12 p.m. & a track hosted test-n-tune from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. for only $20.00.

Gates will open on Saturday at 8 a.m. with time runs beginning at 10 a.m. Our Saturday title race sponsor is Jerry Johnson Motors of Winston-Salem, NC; which is owned by bracket racer, Mr. Carson Robbins. They sell auto body parts so be sure to remember Jerry Johnson Motors next time your automobile needs replacement body parts. The associate sponsor for Saturday's race is Scenic Ford Lincoln of Mt. Airy, NC. This is where our own Leigh Anne Flynt spends the majority of her life at when she isn't at the dragstrip. They are a New & Used Ford dealership so check with them next time you're in the market for a Ford Motor Company vehicle.

Sunday gates will open at 8 a.m., with church at 9 a.m. & time runs/our Dash for Cash following church services. The Sunday title race sponsor is Homer's Custom Paint and Body of Wytheville, VA. This business is owned & operated by our own Homer Carty. Not only do they offer custom paint & body work, they also do powder coating. Be sure to remember Homer's Custom Paint and Body after you purchase your replacement body panels from Jerry Johnson Motors. The associate sponsor for Sunday is Scenic Chevrolet of Mt. Airy, NC. They are the Mt. Airy Chevrolet dealership so if you're in the market for a new or used Chevrolet automobile, reach out to them.

Always be sure to check the list of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association sponsors to see if one listed is something that you are in need of. We need these sponsors & these sponsors need us!

* $100.00 to enter race per day
* Seatbelts must be within 2 years
* Helmets must be Snell SA2015 or Newer
* Permanent class destination code/car #'s on all 4 windows

This coming Saturday, August 19th, one of our own (Mr. Curt Smith Jr) will be missing the race to marry his best friend! We will have a collection box set up at the registration table for cards/cash/gift cards to be presented to the happy couple at our next race in September at Galot.

If there are any racers that won't make Rockingham but would like to donate, I have Facebook Pay, Venmo, Cash App, & PayPal. Just get in touch with me.

Rockingham Dragway was one for the record books this past weekend!!! It was CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association's first time visiting there but we hope it isn't the last. The track management/crew did a phenomenal job with track prep/conditions from Friday night's test & tune until completion on Sunday evening. Thank you guys for all of your hard work!!!

Saturday results:

We started off Saturday with our one qualifying run, then followed up with the Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Emily Volkman in her bright orange 1969 Camaro collected the first $100.00 of the day. She was dialed a 6.14, had a .0008 RT, & ran dead on her dial 6.1416 @ 109.89 mph. Following 1st round of eliminations, we broke our 2nd record of 2023, with having 51 cars in competition. THANK YOU racers for this!!! Jamey Caudill didn't get a "W" in his lane during 1st round but he still didn't leave empty handed. He received the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package award & $50.00. Jamey was dialed a 6.84, had a .0006 RT, & ran 6.8712 at 96.80 mph. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to KDS Motorsports winner from June, Mr. Joseph Strickland. Joseph came out on the losing side of an awesome run that would win most rounds. He had a .0192 RT, ran 7.4581 @ 89.70 mph on his 7.45 dial. He received a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel. In the Semi's, we had Kevin Locklear & Tim Sloan but Tim was unable to make the run due it a parts failure in round #4. Our finals brought 2 racers that are no strangers to the winner's circle & we knew it would be a good one. It was previous CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association Points Champion Steve Lucas & one of our dedicated sponsors, Eddie Longhany Jr. Steve was pulling double duty as he was also in competition in the Footbrake division where he also found himself in the finals there as well. This race was over at the starting line as Eddie Jr. turned on the dreaded red bulb. Steve took the tree with a .0242 RT & ran 7.6238 @ 66.08 mph on his 6.90 dial. Eddie Jr. was -.0171 & ran a 6.7102 @ 88.03 mph on his 6.60 dial. We waited for Steve to run his finals in Footbrake where he also collected the win in that class. I can't remember how many runs he put on his car total on Saturday but if you paid any attention to the Rockingham Dragway app, you could tell he was putting on a driving clinic. I'm sure that is one day in his racing career that he will never forget!!! Steve also collected a $300.00 gift certificate from QA1 & a $100.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Eddie Jr. received a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, & a $50.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Like this name hasn't been mentioned enough already, Steve was the winner of the Auto Plus Service Center sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award for his .0003 RT in round 5 of eliminations. Dennis Pope was awarded the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award for either a transmission or torque converter failure during round 1 where he lost to Avery McLawhorn. Our previous race winner was able to attend on Saturday due to his sister-in-law's wedding so our bounty was then put on Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway Sunday Runner-Up, Billy Ryan. Homer Carty received the $100.00 Bounty Hunter award sponsored by Wayside Landscapes & Supply for taking out Billy during round #2. Anyone who knows Dell Britt knows he would give anyone the shirt off his back in a time of need & if you remember correctly, he needed help from fellow racers on Saturday evening of our Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway event. Dell was on the other side this time where he was the one loaning out parts to 3 fellow racers so he was selected as the Butner Construction Sportsmanship award. Kevin Locklear collected the Zamp Racing Best Winning Package of the race for his round 1 win. He was dialed a 6.70, had a .0058 RT, & ran a 6.7020 @ 98.12 mph. As mentioned above, Tim Sloan had parts failure in round 4 of competition. He took the tree on this run with a rather late reaction time & it was obviously the worst one of the race. He was awarded the Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT". Our Saturday action was completed shortly after midnight which made for a long day of racing action & only a few short hours of shut-eye before starting back on Sunday morning around 10 a.m.

Sunday's action started with a random tech card draw from Saturday & Sunday tech card to award one racer with a Visa gift card courtesy of Half Moon Marketplace for the "Act of Giving Back" award. Mr. Charlie Wisecarver, fresh off a runner-up finish at Shadyside Dragway in the Classic Gear Jammers 2nd Chance race Saturday evening was chosen for this. I think they told me they rolled into Rockingham Dragway about midnight & then grabbed a bite to eat the local Waffle House in Rockingham, NC. We then ran our Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash & Kenny Horne was the winner of the first $100.00 bill of the day. We had 2 dead 0 runs with a total of 7 dead on runs altogether. Kenny dialed a 6.27, had a .0428 RT, & ran 6.2701 @ 108.25 mph. First round of competition, we had 49 cars on the property but 4 suffered failure during the dash so we had 45 cars compete in round #1. Bert Powell with his wheel standing Chevy Camaro found himself on the losing end of a tough one during round #1 & was awarded the Victory Lane Golf Carts Best Losing Package. Bert had a .0013 RT, & broke out running 6.1989 @ 109.57 mph on his 6.20 dial. Dan Fletcher was our Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants Round #2 fuel model where he was awarded a 5 gallon pail of PRO 112+ racing fuel for his R2 loss. He was dialed a 7.09, had a .0187 RT, & ran a 7.0877 @ 91.76 mph. Today's lone semi-finalist was Eddie Longhany Jr. as coming off a runner-up finish on Saturday. I think you could say he also had a great weekend of racing. Eddie Jr. came up short on this run against Kevin Locklear. Eddie Jr. was dialed a 6.65, had a .0464 RT, & broke out running 6.6257 @ 100.45 mph. Sunday's finals brought our 2 previous Sunday event runner-ups to the finals so one was going to up their title to bride & the other had to remain a bridesmaid (at least for another event). Billy Ryan (Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway Sunday runner-up) & Kevin Locklear (KDS Motorsports Sunday runner-up) met up in the finals. Unfortunately this race was over at the hit when Kevin lit the red bulb by -.0174 handing the race over to Billy Ryan. Needless to say, Baby Mama Amy, was very proud of her husband & tickled to death for his win as it got a tad bit emotional on the starting line but us girls stuck together & was right there by Amy's side!!! Billy was ready to get his 1st Eagle trophy & CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association win as he was dialed a 6.18, had a .0155 RT & ran a 6.1711 @ 112.64 mph. Kevin had dialed a 6.68 & ran dead on his dial 6.6833 @ 100.33 mph. To add to both of their winnings; Billy received a $300.00 QA1 gift certificate & a $100.00 ATI Performance Products gift certificate. Kevin received a $100.00 Altronics Inc gift certificate, $50.00 Meziere Enterprises gift certificate, & a $50.00 ATI Performance Products gift certificate. Mr. Jim Morgan won round #3 but had parts failure on the top end & wasn't able to come back for round #4 of competition. He was awarded the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck award & also the Auto Plus Service Center Paul Bunyan "Best RT" award for his .0012 RT during round #1. Hillarey Marshall collected on the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award for taking out Saturday's race winner, Steve Lucas, during round 1 of competition. She was dialed a 6.30, had a .0223 RT, & ran a 6.3161 @ 103.40 mph. Blake Hickman (my newly acquired hard-headed friend) received the Crew Chief Pro Software $100.00 gift certificate for the Best Winning Package of the race for his round #2 win. He had a .0084 RT, ran a 7.3337 @ 90.14 mph on his 7.33 dial. Ronnie Courtney received the Gutters by Design/Worst Reaction for his .3035 RT during round #1.

CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association is off for about 3 weeks when we make our return to GALOT Motorsports Park. If someone could please contact Mother Nature & request a little cooler weather for that weekend, it would be AWESOME & much appreciated. During this break, the BIGGEST race of the year for Stock & Super Stock racers, The BIG GO, at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park will be taking place & we have a few racers that will be competing there & we wish them all the BEST OF LUCK & bring that win back to NC. We will be watching & cheering you on from here!!!
