Default It's Official...HP on Monday (actually Tuesday)

The 2009 Dodge with the 345 engine in Stock w/automatic just got 10 horsepower today. Car now falls in D/SA at 9.84 using 315 as the refactored horsepower.

Ball Park Numbers,

9.5 x 315 = 2,993 , 2,993 + 170 = 3,163 pounds

Assuming they can get down to that weight:

555 Horsepower = 10.17 @ 131 MPH - Not a bad D car.

Take it to Atco in the Spring and the car could run 10.00's.

I have to assume of course that this applies to the DP combination. What classes would the showroom stock, driven off of the dealer's lot, non-DP cars be in? Just wondering.

Experienced class racers that are proven winners are starting to surface w/these 5.7 DP cars....Easily still should be very tough in DS/A....maybe belong even up in "B" w/5.7 LS-1 GM F-bodys, a pretty good "new-car" matchup, although the LS-1's are already 8-10 yrs. old........02 cents only. WJ

"Showroom stock, driven off of the dealer's lot, non-DP" 2009 Challengers are not legal for Stock or S/S until Chrysler sends the specs to NHRA.

This is not the first time a manufacturer has failed to send specs on the cars they build. FYI, a 1978 Gremlin cannot race in Stock or S/S either. No specs were sent from AMC to NHRA that year.

Thanks Travis. That's what I figured. With all the stuff about the DP combination, nothing was ever done about the showroom type cars. It doesn't surprise me though. It would be interesting to see what classes they would fall into.

Ken, the showroom cars weigh a ton, but have higher factory hp ratings than the DP's. I'll weigh a stock Challenger R/T this week to actually find out. Stock 6.1 SRT8 Challenger=425 vs the 6.1 DP@390? I think the 6.1 DP has found a happy home in A/S, but the 5.7 DP combo is going to get hit hard, real hard.

How pro-active is NHRA in procuring these manufacturer's HP ratings? Does NHRA just sit back and wait for the information to come pouring in from manufacturers who unilaterally, and without being asked (by NHRA) take it upon themselves to do this???
,
Or, does NHRA contact the manufacturers and inform them that certain new cars will perform exceedingly well on the strip, but will remain ineligible to run Stock OR Super Stock, if they (the mfgr's.) fail to send in the requisite specs for classification purposes (and, information to be used for NHRA horsepower factoring, of course.)

It would seem to me to be incumbent on NHRA's tech department to leave no stone un-turned, until they HAD what they needed in the way of tech information for all these new motors, but do they go after it, aggressively?

I wonder....

Travis,
so pardon my ignorance, but are you saying that it's now a natural D car, as in it's already been factored out of F?
