Default planning a new stocker

Fellow class racers;

Monte Pannell and I are in the planning stage of building another stocker. We have nothing and are beginning with a clean slate.

The one requirement is carburated. That is our experience and we want to go with our strengths.

In addition, to be practical, it will most likely be a GM body with SBC or BBC power. [again, that is our area of experience]

We would enjoy hearing your feedback in ref to good packages to build.

NOTE: we are experienced craftsmen and receive much of our pleasure from the building. In a perfect world, we could find a nice, clean, "core" body as the beginning.

Larry, Nice to hear about your new Stocker project.
Second Gen Camaro SBC. 70 & 71. The 71 270 OEM HP is NHRA rated at 274. Dished piston motor, 487 head. Natural H car.
70 350 2 barrel natural N car
NHRA rated 224 HP ( very soft rating), uses 441 head. Uses the big 2 barrel, 1.375 Venturi Much easier to run 1.0 + under with this combo. ( If you want to go for #1 Qualifer).

Good luck with what ever you build

85-86 Monte Carlo SS. 305 HO (flat top, big cam) factored at 248 for a natural K/SA car, or 249 with a stick. Seems decent to me considering there is so much readily available For the chassis, and the engine combo.

69 Camaro 396 375/405 It should be able to go 1.20 under most every race for awhile.

Well Larry, if that's the case then why don't you try something different?

Without checking the Class Guide but while still following your wants list. Early C10 truck, wagon or an El Camino would be different. Any 4 door GM cars that had a cop/ pursuit motor in them from the factory you could make into a screamer? I am all for different, but with parts support too.

Agreed! El Caminos are way cool,and the best thing about them are the trailing arm/coil spring rear suspension. Pretty easy and inexpensive to make them hook with 9" tire. And loosened up the front suspension has a lot of travel.

an El Camino is a good idea and would be a cool buildup.
