Default Alternator Wiring

I am about to install an alternator on my car and I was wondering if I could run the alternator wire to the hot side of the starter solenoid where the battery lead is. That way i can cut down on running the wire all the way to the rear. Or will this lead to ignition and electronic issues.

I assume you have a master cut off switch on the back of the car (but I know what can happen when you "assume"). If you do have a cut off switch then the wire needs to run to the battery side of the cut off switch in order for the switch to do the job it was designed to do.
