Swedish Stock & Super Stock Association
odeSpnortshmiim2lfm15hhc0l0gt7g7mca63i1t155f33c00l au8fuiig95 ? Today we honor the memory of Markus Svensson, a prominent figure in the Stock / Super Stock class. Markus passed away far too soon. He was only 64 years old. Ola Berglund tells a little about her old friend: I got to know Markus when he was 16 years old in the mid-70's. I dragged him to Drag Racing at the airport in Hudiksvall and to Mantorp, that's where it started, the interest in Racing. He started drag racing himself with an Impala -65 cab that he bought from Sven H?ll?n. Mid 80's bought a -69 Camaro with 302 that I helped rebuild into a NHRA stocker that he ran for a few years, then rebuilt to Superstock with 427 bb, think he won the World Championship around 1990. By the way, it was Markus and Magnus Tannfeldt who introduced the NHRA rules in Sweden, former Standard and Modified standard. Lasse Bod?n provides more information about the life of this outstanding racer: Markus started driving Stock in 1983 with a 1965 Impala cab. He bought the car from Sven H?ll?n. He still had a framed picture of the Impala on the wall. In 1984 he bought a Camaro from Johnny Bergstr?m in the Stockholm area. 302nd, four-speed. (that Ari K?rkk? has now. ) He drove it for a few years in Stock before rebuilt it into a Superstock. In the late 1980s, he went to the United States to work for Joe Lepone, a Pro stock driver. After that, he has worked for several Pro stock teams including Mike Thomas, George Marnell, Barry Grant and more. He has helped bring cars and engines home to most Pro stock teams in Europe. He was in the team around Niclas Andersson, who took four straight European Championship golds. He has also helped Bengt Ljungdahl, Thomas Lindstr?m, Robin Nor?n and more. After more than ten years in the United States, he moved back home to Sweden. Then he started clutch service, which served many Swedish teams. In the move to Sweden, he brought with him the Dodge Dart that he has driven in Stock / Super stock in the last years with great success. In 2024 he took the bronze medal in his class. He also had a 1969 Camaro stationed in the United States and used to go over and compete with it. The closest relatives are partner Gitte, as well as three sisters, Elin, Birgitta and Annika, with families. We at SSSA share their grief. Our thoughts are with them. Thanks to Ola and Lasse.

He was a good friend of my oldest boy Robert. Jon and
I knew him also as well especially Jon. He got him a position on a ProStock team and Robert has worked in the racing industry for many years in different capacities, since that opportunity thanks to Markus!

Markus bought my 69 Camaro around Nov. 2012. We became good friends, I am very saddened by his passing, condolences to his family. He loved to talk about clutch management and was a master of the starting line. Was a Mopar guy at heart but had a soft spot for 69 Camaros, you will be missed.

I never got to meet Markus, but knew the name. This has got to be very hard on his family and friends. Gone WAY TOO SOON.
May God bring peace and comfort to his family and friends R.I.P. Markus.

Sad to hear this news, really enjoyed talking with Markus at the 2019 Finals at Pomona, where his was racing his red 4 speed 69 Big Block 4 speed Camaro. It was interested talking to him about clutches, and running radial slicks with a stick car. A clever fellow, good racer, and a nice guy. RIP.

The world needs more people like Markus. Wish we could meet for breakfast at the Pomona airport one more time!

Very sad news as I always looked forward to talking to Markus whenever I saw him out west. He and I would talk about clutches most of the time. I actually got him to do this interview a few years ago.

This is just terrible to hear. Markus was always such a pleasure to talk to when we would see him on our trips out west. Our condolences to his family and friends.
