Is it possible to break a spragless torque converter?

Re: Spragless Torque Converter
Fins can still break off and cause major damage and the lugs that hold the spragless hub to the stator can shear off .
You also could have a broken or spun stator tube in the pump that will also act like a broken converter .

Re: Spragless Torque Converter
I was sure that was the case when my converter broke before the end of the season. What was all the hype about spragless vs sprag? I replaced it with a backup 8"sprag type which was not made for my current combination and it outperformed the 9" spragless I had been using for 5 years.

I'm not surprised at all that an 8" sprag converter outperformed the 9" spragless. It most likely had a higher stall, which I've always seen to be quicker and more consistent as long as you can handle the increased RPM at the finish line. Also, spragless converters tend to build a little more heat and be down just a little MPH compared to an identical converter equipped with a sprag. With that said, I am still a fan of spragless converters.

Re: Spragless Torque Converter
When I see guys "ripping" the throttle at the finish line I shudder to think what that must be doing to the sprag. I prefer spragless, " just because", but I could be wrong.
