Default 100 lbs.

Always been told lose a 100 pounds pickup a tenth in the 1/4 if so what is it worth in the 1/8 mile? Also if running a 5.83 gear in the 1/8 what gear is needed to turn same rpms in the 1/4 finish line?

We did a lot of 1/8 and 1/4 in early 70s with a manual 1/4 speed. Found that we ended up with the same gear ratio in rear. I would just stretch 3 rd gear out in 1/8 could run 1/8 with just 2 shifts.

If 100 pounds is worth 0.1 sec in 1/4 mile, it's worth 0.06 in the 1/8 mile.

Thanks for the replies. Figured it should pickup about whatever it was worth by the 1/8 but wasn't sure.

I know a lot of old 1/8 mile guys who ran 6.00+ gears. but with old 4 speeds, I thinks the time shifting [between gears] cost them.

in my car, when running a 4 speed and a 5.67, streeeeetching 3rd netted better ets, than running a 6.20 and hitting all 4 gears.
maybe with the new very high dollar clutchless 4 speeds, it would take a lot of data logging to know. 6 to 7 seconds happens real fast.
