Remember, 1972 and 1973 was pretty much Pure Stock.
But you could run as wide a street-tire as you could, as long as it fit within the wheel-well.
No headers.

I still remember when these things came out...what a name "The Machine"

And while the AMC's The Machine was priced well above the $3000 mark, this one from AMC a year earlier wasn't...the Hurst SC/Rambler also known as the Scrambler, it was priced at $2998...$2 bucks under the $3000 mark.

The 1970 Dart Swinger 340,

Came through with dual hood scoops.
And the hood had factory holes (approximately 3" diameter) with
gaskets, for a potential under-hood cold-air package.

Unfortunately, Dodge never went through with supposed later-production year option.

Paul I think the last true budget muscle car had to be the 1985 Mustang GT or 5.0 liter engine option. Last fast factory muscle car under $10,000. About $3500 in '69-'70 money.
