Monza Coupe 262 V8
Found a 1976? Monza Coupe with a 262 in the junkyard yesterday. Dime rocket potential or smog boat anchor? I was surprised how complete the engine was including the air cleaner and brackets, only the front seats were gone. They wanted $350 for the engine minus the carb and other accessories. The guy working had to call somewhere to get pricing for the stuff. What do you guys think, does it have potential?

Re: Monza Coupe 262 V8
Brian Philbrick from Canada head the record fir some time dduring the last few years with this combo. You can also look in the classification guide under 1975 nova.Believe that engine is still a good combo in the Nova also. If you don't want to run the 262 engine in the Monza, claim it as a 1975 and run the California :smogger" motor. Low compression 350 c.i. motor. Believe there are a couple of them running also. Buy the 262 and hold it for now if it is a good piece. They are getting very hard to find. I had one in a 1975 with the factory stick. As they come, they don't run back but they suffer from a tall street gear. If you have a decent Monza body and engine I would buy to fix up even if you don't want to race it.

Re: Monza Coupe 262 V8
Brian,
I have a complete 262 motor complete with Shubeck lifters and Bullet cam that I will sell for that combo. Also have a set of Hooker headers with the scavenger collectors that I will sell. All the motor needs is to be freshened up , rings and bearings . All correct casting numbers. Ran 14.10s at T weight back in '08 in my Monza stocker. I now run the 350 - 2V combo in K and L/SA. Also not far away from you in NC.

Re: Monza Coupe 262 V8
Right now I'm putting my J/SA 83' Camaro back together but thought I might buy this car complete for future use. Trying to get to Indy via Chicago this morning. Stuck at San Antonio airport, my flight is an hour late already.

Neat car, if it's decent and the price is right, I'd save it!

Re: Monza Coupe 262 V8
Doubt it will be reasonable but I will check on Sunday for a price. This is a small yard that has older cars off a large u-pull-it type operation. Anything in it has way higher prices than the regular yard. Indy was fun, just got back to San Antonio.

Re: Monza Coupe 262 V8
No deal on the Monza Coupe, they don't sell any cars from this yard. Only the seats were taken so far. Any guesses as to what may of value from this thing? They want $350 for the engine minus carb, accessories, fan, etc. If I remember there is another 262 in a X body in the big yard.
