Question QA-1 coil over conversion kit

Anyone have any experience with the QA-1 coil over conversion kit or the Veri-Shock set up? Need to upgrade front suspension. Can't really afford the tubular control arms just yet so will need to start off on stock A-arms. Also single or double adjustables? Any thoughts welcome.

Johny, my advice is you don't need and I say don't want a coilover shock nor tubular control arms in your BB Nova. Neither IMO is an upgrade.

IF you have the coin Afco BNC double adjustable shocks are the ticket but do require the lower control arm hole to be opened up and the bolt holes moved outboard 1/2". If not, Koni's adjustable street gas shock gets the job done and they are what I used for years on my former ride...

Thanks. Looked into the SPA-1 from Koni awhile back because I have a set of them with only a couple passes on them from another car. I am told by Koni they are not recomended for cars with a BB. Car is too heavy on the front and valving is not right. I also looked into the Afco at one point. I hear from a lot of racers they are a great shock, although a little pricy. My only concern there is access to the adjustment dials inside the spring. Were you able to get to them no problem? Anything now is a upgrade. Has Competition Eng 3 way adjustables that are 4-5 years old. Can't really adjust them because the are no detents anymore and you really don't know where you are. (keep spinning around). May go the AFCO route. Keep overall cost down and get good quality to do what I need. Thoughts?

Johny, agree with Koni, the SPA-1 is not the shock you want nor what I've used for nearly 20 years in my Chevelle.

What I used and what you want is their adjustable gas street shock

which works well but no comparision to Afco's BNC double adjustable shock.

Got ya. Sorry, reading is a skill. Anyway I talked to tech at Afco and that sounds like the shock for me. Was trying to get away from any "fabricating" but welding in the mounting ring does not sound like a big deal. Thanks for the help

Eric Saffell is the guy to speak to at Afco and the lca mod is not a big deal.

The QA-1 coil over kit is an excellent product. Just make sure you get the correct spring. I can help you figure it out if you're interested.

The QA-1s work very well. Very easy to adjust and the adjustments do what they are supposed to. I also agree you need to get the right spring.

must be an oldsmobile thing

Speak to stock/super stock chassis builders and those with a shock dyno and they'll tell you they are junk compared to Afco, Santhuff and Koni

They will also tell me there is no need to deep stage either.

That being said, if I ever get to the point where my QA-1's can't control my wheelstand anymore, then I'll install the Afco BNC's.
