Old Drag Strip Info Wanted
Hey Y'all:
My name is Sean Bush. I am looking for information on a couple of tracks. Here's my story: My dad, Charlie Bush, used to race at several tracks in GA and AL in the early 60's. I am trying to research these tracks and assemble information to present to him. He raced at the following tracks: Camp Wheeler, Macon, GA, Vidalia Drag Strip, Augusta Drag Strip, Albany Drag Strip, Phenix City Dragway, AL, Yellow River, and one unknown track that I can't tie down. He said that it was in Columbus, GA and raced on Friday night. The shutdown area was short and had a mound of dirt at the end. Just beyond the mound of dirt there was a huge dropoff - he thinks there was a train track below, but can't quite remember (it has been 40+ years). I am looking for the name/location of this track as well as information on all the others. I have some info on many of these tracks, but I am especially looking for race results and stories from the folks that raced at these tracks as well as photos of my dad's two cars. He drove a white '60 Pontiac Ventura and a black '62 Impala SS. The SS was billed as the Bush Hester car. To date we have no pictures of these cars. Your help will be greatly appreciated. You can contact me here or via email at techdraw@dublin.com. Thank you in advance for your help. Sean Bush. |
