Default Converting to a th200

I’m converting to a th200 from a th350 in a 65 chevy 2 that runs a mild 427bbc for a friend.
Cars light and runs 10.90s with a gm performance hyd roller.
Question is who to buy the converter from?
This is a street car the trans is non lockup and uses a fmvb.

Everyone makes the converter, but the question is why do this? I hate to cut into your action, so why not put a 2.75 low and an aluminum direct drum, and call it a day?

Lives in Florida , it’s a street car and he wants the overdrive.
To go to a cruise or drive it to work is a 70mph commute unfortunately.
Can’t find a good local shop to fix the th350.
He lives bout 1/2 hour from the Moroso track.

Might be smarter to run a 700-R4 , a 200-4R will not hold up with street driving behind a 427

FTI is in DeLand. Have always had good success with Paul Forte (TurboAction). He’s just north of the Jacksonville airport.

Agree with YAK, you are opening up a CAN of worms with this tranny swap. Stockers that search for every hundredth of ET run the TH 200 out of necessity. These tranny’s can be soooooo finicky and unreliable. I would run a TH 350 on the street with this combo. However, if you insist …Paul Forte at Turbo Action will make you a nice converter for the Th 200 .

The decision is not mine.
It’s a very light car and he’s been frequenting the turbo Buick forums.
Tells me they have luck with them.
He’s buying the trans from extreme automatics.
Shoebox nova aluminum bbc gotta be less than 3000lbs.

You say T200 but later you say you want overdrive, T200 is a 3 speed light duty transmission, 2004R is the overdrive version. They have inherent weakness especially for performance applications which is why the 700R4 or also called 4L60 is better suited. If you want strength the hot transmission for the street that is strong is a 4L80E which is electronic shift.

200-4R.

Okay, now we know what we're talking about.

The 200 4R is a lock up trans...All of them, unless it's removed .I assume it was ,but why?
What size converter is he using now?

If he's worried about freeway driving, then he needs what's called a 9/12. The back half is from a 245 mm and the front cover and lock up plate is from the original 298 mm.
My personal observation is any O/D trans is slower than a good T350 , so be prepared for that.
