Default Beware of Scammers

I get an email about my WTB MSD ad:
"Dave Krishna"...."krishdave1100@gmail.com"
The pictures attached are lifted right off an Ebay ad for the same item. They even say screenshot on them

DK
Hi mate,
Check out this ignition control box I got and ready to part out with if you are still interested.
Asking $430 ship.

Me,
Yeah okay. Your name sounds familiar..Have we met? Where are you located?

DK
Nah I'm not sure of that,I'm located In Columbus Oh. Glenn.
DK
I think we got a lot of conversation on the class racer but I a sign in as Glenn in the forum.

Me,
Why Glenn?

I've got a good friend in Columbus. I'll have him pick it up . What's your address?

End of correspondence... since this morning.

So I look for GLENN on the member list here. Of course, no "GLENN"

I've been told that you can have as many g.mail accounts as you want, so watch for that.

These guys are slippery and hard to catch. Best I can do is try to warn others here .
Ask them if you've met at the races.
Ask for the exact application that the part was on.
Tell them you'll have a friend pick up the item with cash, and to send their address...Chances are that will be the end of story.

Be careful on classifieds here and elsewhere.

I just got another schmuck "from Portland"

I asked what vehicle the unit was on last. He copies and pastes part of the description, instead of answering my question.
Hope he writes back..I'll really hate being so graphic with him, right after Mother's Day ;-)

Yac, as I mentioned a few months back, if you put a WANTED ad on our
poor old forum, there is a group that will answer the ads. I was looking for
a specific battery charger, and he sent me pics of it. I asked him what he
used it for and he told me. To charge batteries. I asked him what kind,
he told me whatever kind he wanted to charge. So then I asked him to
send me a picture of the charger with todays newspaper. He said where
he lived he couldn't get a newspaper. And on it went, and then he said
it was like I didn't trust him. Ya think! Anyways, it appears trying to buy
parts with a wanted ad is certainly gonna get their attention.

That's okay..I'm their worst nightmare..Retired with time on my hands
I love to string them along and waste their time. This way, they're not scamming some friend of mine here.

Several weeks back I saw an ad about something. At this time not sure what. Price was a "STEAL". Seller answered all the questions about the part. He even had a picture of his supposedly race car. Well, the front fender had some lettering that said " Felker engines" or something to that nature. Bill's first name was not on the lettering so as a somewhat FB, Ebay buyer, and seller (to protect myself) I asked for Felkers first name. He couldn't or wouldn't answer. He got angry and asked what difference does that make. I told him all the difference in the world. NO SALE

If someone wants to sell you something while responding to a WTB ad on C/R, ask them for their sign in name here. If they give you one..., look it up on the members list ,above.

The last clown gave me a Div. 3 SST number that doesn't exist, although he said he raced S/C , out of Portland. I already knew he was a scammin' POS but I was just wasting his time.

Ask them a specific question that only a real racer would know. Usually they'll c&p some mumbo jumbo from the manufacturer's description , instead of a real answer.

Yeah I had the same issues a couple weeks ago when trying to find some heads. Unlike Yac I'm not retired but I sure enjoy screwing with them.

Good morning to Mark and to all,
I noticed the term " Mate " as well, a term used mostly by the English and the Auzzie's. Unless he was lining you up for a Matting process............
I'm sure like a good many others that you get a hundred Scam calls a day on your phone. So please beware of these low life's.

Respectfully,

I posted a wanted ad for a fairly unusual part on another board. Got a reply from a new member telling me to e-mail his buddy who had one. It was some whizzer in Texas scamming. I blew him off but another guy got the same deal and sent $700 for a pair of heads. Of course his money vaporized.

2 weeks later I got a message from a different new member sending me the same e-mail.

If it looks too good to be true.........
