Default leaky vent valve 9" ford

I have a 9" ford that I am periodically having to wipe the messy accumulated grease off the front passenger side. It runs down the rear end on onto the 4-link. No visible leak is evident, so it must be coming out of the little flip top vent valve. any one experience this and is there a fix?

I fixed mine by running a piece of rubber hose(after removing the little cap)up about 10",tie strap the hose to something and put a new vent valve in the end of the hose.the gm part # is 15771000 and it costs about $3.00

Great way to fix it but how much fluid do you have in the rear??? Possiblly overfilled it here??? Ya really do not need much more than a few PINTS not quarts but pints to work satisfactorily---Comp

I called my local GM dealer and they have that part # in stock, so I will put it on using a 3/8 hose.
Should the vent valve be mounted facing up or does it matter?
thanks for the help.

I think it should face up so if some fluid gets in the hose it runs back into the differential and not on the track
