Joe, I can tell you from my experience, that going 78 and then North to Numidia is not an easier tow. Going through all the small towns, and the straight up straight down hills makes for a hard tow. One hill by Centralia has a stop sign at the bottom of the hill and then proceeds to go straight up for what seems like a mile.
I took Rt80 last year and decided it's a better tow. At least with my tow rig.

IMO ,the easiest towing rt from Central NJ is to go west on I 78 to PA 33 North to I 80 West .
Exit I80 at the Buckhorn # 232 exit and go south on PA 42 to Numidia .
The only really serious hill is on PA 42 and although its steep, it really isn't that long.
I 476 , PA Turnpike has a 7 mile ling hill ,terrible road condition North of the hill .
stay away from Pa 61 or PA 309.

Best to cross the river to exit 67B which is 22 north then take that north until it crosses back over and takes you back on 15. Both 15 and 22 are smooth and level with traffic issues being rare.

Years ago I asked directions from a local guy. He said,"you can't get there from here. I'll be a while figuring that out"! He meant pulling a trailer. He got us there.
