Default 12 bolt for stock class car J/SA

I was wondering if i can use a 12 bolt rear out of a pickup i have. i know i have to shorten it to stock length for my 86 camaro to meet specs but would it be legal? The only difference between a car and pickup is the pinion bearing is bigger but the rule book says no truck rear ends???

another issue for your 1986 Camaro is retaining the factory torque arm mounting at the rear housing. In addition, factory brackets will need to be added to the housing for the lower control arm [trailing arm] mounting. Plus mounts for coil springs and the rear centering bar.

I do not know of a way to address these issues with out buying an after market housing designed for your car.

By the time you get the brackets made up, narrow the tubes, get axles, etc you'd be better off getting a Strange eng or Moser unit that is made for the 3rd gen Camaro.

I am currently in the process of building up a 12 bolt for my 77 Camaro. The housing I got for free but it needed to be re-tubed and have Ford style housing ends installed. By the time I ordered all the parts and payed to have the housing welded up I am about $1500 and that is with simple multi leaf mounts. My guess is that the labor involved in the torque arm style brackets would make it cost prohibitive to build an existing housing vs. calling up Moser for a complete unit. Also the NHRA rule book reads "no truck rearends" so that may make you choice easier.
