Cool Power coating headers?

Would powder coating be an acceptable header coating? Never really heard of it being done, but would the exhaust gas temperature be beyond its thermal limits? Got a pretty nice local sandblast and powder coating shop not far from here. I thought I would ask first.

I believe powder coating is only good for approx 300 - 400 degrees. It would probably cook off.

Powder will not work, you need a liquid ceramic. Many powder guys do this as some of the powder manufacturers also sell ceramics. Check with your local powder guy.

Thumbs up Re: Power coating headers?

Coating headers inside and out with a ceramic treatment works really well. Headers can be purchased already coated, but I have chosen to have it done by a specialty shop.

No reason a powder coating shop can't do it.

The finished product is more durable, dissipates heat better and reduces sound. Surprised how well the finished product has worked.

YES, powder coating will work fine on headers but you have to use the special high heat based powder. I believe it is a high silicone based product. It is not much more expensive than the standard powder and much less expensive than ceramic. It is rated to 1400F. I had my Hooker supercomps done a year ago in black and they look great.
