Another track could bite the dust today
Midamerica Motorplex in Pacific Junction, IA goes on the auction block today. Let's hope the buyer is dedicated to keeping the track going, and doesn't doze the whole thing to build a McDonald's. It's not the greatest place to race, but if it closes, it will be a 3-hr. drive from Omaha to the nearest track...pretty sad for a metro area of a million people.

Agreed. I am watching the online bidding starting at 10a cst.
This facility could be a great venue with an owner that reinvests in the property. Clark |

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
That is sad news. I Lived in Omaha in the early 2000's and thought it was a decent facility. Guess the economy caught up to it's ownership. Was it not owned by a local car dealer?

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
$1.4 million? Break that down with "maybe" a couple thousand dollars profit at a good bracket race and a couple thousand profit from your test and tune night, 6 month season due to winter and weather....
If someone bought it to keep it a dragstrip or motorsports facility in general... they have deep pockets because there will be no profits with 1.4 million invested just to get started. Would like to race there sometime. If the guy has a million he might spend another 1/2 million to make it prettier?? Hope you guys end up with a track close by. What ever happened to Scribner? I liked that place, lot of room and really long. |

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
$1.465m was a steal. The farm land across the street is $12k/acre. MAM went for $7k/acre. Yes, the place does need a major makeover.
The season is April 1 thought Oct 31...about 28 weekends. Scribner closed in 2005. We dont know who the buyer is, yet. |

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
I agree with CAD, if they would have sold it as farm land, it would have brought a lot more.

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
I thought there would be a reserve on the property.

Re: Another track could bite the dust today
The auction website said the reserve was met. They didn't say what the reserve was, just that it was met.
