Default Safety Harness question

I’m certain this topic has been here before, apologies to the veterans.

I’m interested in reading the opinions of S/SS racers. Which harness are you the most comfortable with, and which lock mechanism, camlock or latch, is preferred? I’m sure we’ll all agree that safety is nothing to be cheap with, so expense is a non-factor.

I’m specifically interested in what Belts should be run in Stock, L and lower. I’ve read that OEM is still an option?? I’m just trying learn as much as possible before strapping myself in a 12 second rocket

Thank you CR members.

My personal logic is to use latch-link belts in a slow door car and camlock in anything else.

The latch-link are about half the price, and in a roomy car with a thin jacket and no gloves or arm restraints they are very easy to use.

I've never found a notable difference between any of the several brands that I've used.

I have used both types of latch. One is not any better than the other. The cam lock is more expensive. Both work well. The GForce stuff is good.

For your application, a 12 sec. car, I would recommend a lap latch belt. With quicker combos a cam lock system with crotch belt is the way to go. I prefer that the crotch belt holds the mech. and it appears that the manufactures have switched and started placing them on a side lap belt. I usually take them apart and switch it however sometimes this is not possible. Choose a brand name that is readily available, consider replacement in two years, contingency (ha). Also mounting requirements.

We run a couple of M/N/O/P race cars and trucks.

As I recall = M/S up requires a Rollbar/Harness

BUT we run a Rollbar/Harness in everything!

You are at risk of getting HIT in the side or back
by a 150+ Stocker even if you are only going 100 or 110.

The Cam lock is easier to use in confined spaces for my elderly fingers!

On the other hand......In the slower racers = I don't bother with a Fire Jacket
Accidents are much more a concern to me than a onboard fire ( Ever since I removed
the Nitrous from my Stockers ).

On a side note, although it's not the biggest cost on a race car, with all that's going on, how about an extra year on expiriry date from NHRA for existing belts.

Thank you fellas for your input. It's helped out a lot, in mind and wallet.

I can only hope to have a "window" race with you one day GTX John

I might be wrong, but I thought belts for slower cars didn't have the 2 year ruel until this year. Has anyone purchased any Simpson belts lately and just what might the dates be. With no idea when Atco can open, it has to be soon, as with hurricane stuff here, by the middle of Sept. you can't trust what the weather will be. John Kissel

Many times they do not stamp the belts until they are sold. Buy them in June and belts will have a July date.

Could be wrong here but, my understanding is the manufactures are switching to Jan. / yr. dates from the current month system.
