2023 Race Of Champions update

With the 2023 Race Of Champions at Rock Falls is getting closer, it's time for an update. Sponsored by Charlie Abdouch's Midwest Factory Finishes company, this special race-within-a-race always proves to be one of the seasons highlights.

As in previous years, there is no entry fee and the payout is:
$5,000 win
$1,000 runner up
$500 semis

The 16 car qualified field is composed of race winners from previous MCR events beginning with the Race Of Champions the previous year. In the event that we don't have 16 event winners due to rain outs or racers doubling up...which is exactly the scenario we have this year...the runners up from the previous qualifying events get an opportunity to fill out the field.

This year, we're going to add a new twist to the runner ups qualifying for the field by having them qualify for the open spots.

As an example: 12 race winners are at the track for the race...which leaves 4 open spots for the 16 car field. 10 runner ups are also there. We will qualify the 12 race winners as a group for qualifying spots 1-12. Then, the 10 race runner ups will run as a seperate groups to qualify for spots 13,14,15 and 16. That will give us the 16 car field. Everyone eligible to potentially compete in the R.O.C. will get two qualifying attempts. If anyone would be unable to make the call for the first round, the highest qualifying racer of those remaining will go in.

Qualifying for the open spots emphasizes the performance aspect of Stock and Super Stock, which is one of the most important aspects and something everyone feels strongly about. Any heads-up races will be run as normal...heads-up with no breakout.

At this time, we have a couple of stick cars in the Race Of Champions. With the special Stick Challenge race taking place on the same day as the R.O.C., we're sorting out some details on meshing those together. As soon as we finalize that, we'll be updating this here and on the MCR Facebook page.

With two races to go before the R.O.C., the memorial Day race at Earlville will fill the final two spots...provided there's not a double up by a previous race winner. At this point, here's the list of Race Of Champions racers that are seeded in by virtue of a win:
