Default Don Bowles passes ….

Former modified and superstock racer Don Bowles, 84 …passed away this week. He was best known for his modified eliminator Ford Fairmont and his Mustang fastback stick shift superstocker. In addition to racing in 7 decades , Don owned numerous coal mines in Madisonville,Ky…….GODSPEED !!!!

Darn it. From Ford Thunderbolts to the later model stuff and everything in between. Legendary racer for sure.😔

Don was involved with this A/SR in the early 60’s even though the guy who painted the lettering on the door misspelled his name. I am currently building a model of this car with the 427 SOHC engine. In the late seventies he was featured in the Windy Hollow program with some guy named Thorne. Tried to load some pictures but my file size was too large. Thanks for posting mj.

As I recall, that Thorne guy was Class Winner at INDY one year in SS/OA. That was when a Class Win meant something. If you see the Thorne guy, please send him my best regards. My memories are of him and his young daughter strolling the pits at the BG Sportsnats and divisional ….
