Re: Not for Nuthin' But Close!
Are you doing balance shaft delete while you have it apart? I have a set I could send you. Tech tip #1 16 links between the marks. Tech tip # 2 when installing the front cover, put the dampener in the cover and install as a unit on the keyway it should just slide together. Just put the cams in and go fast. Tom

No Tom, I'm not deleting the balance shafts. Thanks for the tech tip! I'm just going to put the cams in and hope to go fast.

Re: Not for Nuthin' But Close!
I'm home from "The Grove" and have learned and remembered a lot! All from one not very good run!
Info, info, info, there can't be enough when dealing with an F.I. combo. (Yac, you need to read this) With the new header and cams installed, I've managed to slow the car down about 4 1/2 tenths. The HP tuners deal is a fine tool for manipulating the OEM ECU to get it to do what it needs to BUT it doesn't offer me a TRUE O2 reading. On Thursday morning, I installed an old LM1 stand-alone O2 and Friday made one Q run. The A/F ratio was between 16-1 (starting line) and 14.5-1 (finish line)! And that was after adding 5% more fuel than the last time the car was out! After that run, Doug added 10% more fuel and......... it rained for the next 2 days. Monday morning, I started the car up for the first time since adding more fuel and it was a different car! Here's where the remembering part comes in, remember me saying that I was having a hard time staging the car because I couldn't hold it against the converter? When this whole thing started, we could easily hold the car at 2000-2200 RPM on the line. After the header and the cams, I could barely hold it at 1500-1600. Not any more! I can hold it at 2500 if I want to now. The converter is acting that much looser. What was the old tuners trick about using the converter as an in-car dyno? I can't wait to get this thing back out again!

Re: Not for Nuthin' But Close!
I'm back from LVD but not yet fully recovered. Oh, physically I'm fine but it's pretty tough being dressed down by a 17 year old engineering student. I think the quote went something like, "You've got to lock up your tool box and learn how to use your laptop!".
The cams and header have killed the car down low to the point that you can (probably) walk to the 60' clock faster than this car gets there. Fresh from the salvage yard the car would go 2.13 sixties and it now consistently does the same in about 2.30!!! The car is easy to stage and get a light with, it's incredibly consistent and it runs real good MPHs so it's making power but I've got to figure out something if I'm going to take this thing to Columbus in a couple of weeks! It has the best final drive in it that can be had in a 4T40E transaxle (3.91) so I'm going to be researching torque converters this week.

Re: Not for Nuthin' But Close!
There's a new converter going into this puppy today!
OBTW, this certainly isn't as easy to work on as a Sunbird!
