Default Front Runner tires

Which do you prefer? I have M/T,s about 3 yrs old. About 50-60 passes One has pinhole leak on the tread surface. Have to air it up about every 4 days in my garage and 4-5 times race weekends. I don't want to patch it ,or put slime in it. Would it be OK to just replace one tire? Or should I replace both? The other one is fine.. thank you

Hoosier
How about one of the internal patches over the pin hole? I’m sure any decent tire shop can fix it. May need to rebalance after.

I have done this several times due to some of the terrible pits out
West in the old days. Never had a problem with it!

Good morning,
I have patched the inside of front race tires without any balance issues.
Be aware that race tires are intentionally made lighter for what we do.
That being said I recently had a Hoosier tire with a small pinhole leak that I patched and "slimed" and wouldn't seal. There isn't a tremendous amount of rubber inside these tires. Clean inside and scuff and get tire cement from a good tire place - that should get the majority of tire leaks. Would have tire balance checked and corrected.

Respectfully,

When I lived in Division 6, anyone who raced at Renegade in Yakima, Washington was at the constant risk of getting a flat tire at any time due to the Goathead weed. You basically needed to have steel sole shoes to even walk through the pits!

All this said, I repaired a few leaking tires for friends and used a patch, never having any issues and the tires continued working until they needed replacement.

The deal with the Goatheads should be fixed, in the pits @ least. They have made quite an effort to be rid of those ....... things.

I know it defeats the liteweight thing but has anybody used a tube to fix a persistent leaker?

Good morning,
I had used Regular passenger car tubes in my Moroso front tires for years when I raced at Westhampton on Long Island. It did stop the flat tire troubles, but tubes add to the overall weight of the wheel / tire combination. I found I was giving up a little after I started racing at Raceway Park in New Jersey, the pits were much cleaner. No balance or handling problems with tire tubes .but yes, a little heavier.

My GM A body sits on Hoosiers year round, and they lose little air pressure over those months.

I run Moroso DS-2, but I'd just patch what you have if I were you.
