Default Onan 7.5 Diesel Gen Set Fault Code 24

It had a few issues last year but we worked around it, this year it won’t run longer than 10 min. It’s in a Performax trailer and after I removed the correct panels in the correct order I could see and touch the panel bolts. I only had to remove two items the were riveted in place. Ronnie’s company did a good job in planning access. Fault code 24 is a bad temperature sender.

I had planned for this day and had a new thermostat and a temp sender. Did I mention that the Gen set and fuel tank is located underneath the cabinets. This caused a few small problems. Running out of bandaids, retrieving dropped tools , I had to get a stronger magnet. The biggest problem so far is me, I can’t get small enough to get where I need to be to work. Had to modify some tools to get the job done of removing the temp sender. Use only a six point socket a 12 point will round off the flats, the hex is jam nut thick brass. Ran the engine to heat up the thermostat housing and soften the pipe thread sealer. Success it moved 1/8 of a turn and it’s NTP threads.

A false sense of security. Yesterday I got the temp sender to move, most of it came out. The rest of the sender I had to drive out with a punch. We had to clean up the hole and make sure there was no interference with the new sender. Everything worked as promised but it’s a real character builder to get all of the enclosures bolts started before any of them are fully tightened. And so it goes

A big help was printing off a service manual from the Onan sight. I should finish up today.

Go it done.

Is there any adjustments on the optional battery charger to increase input DC voltage to charge the battery? With generator running battery voltage is 12.4-12.5, when it’s hook to a battery charger it’s 13 +.

No there is no adjustments on the battery charging output
Not even sure you have that as on those machines I believe it was optional
Most MH's have battery charging converters/chargers so a battery charging output is not needed
Anytime I have someone with this issue I advise them to hook up an external charger. Far easier and cheaper

Access to any machine for repairs is often a big problem and I always evaluate the job before doing the job.
Removal is sometimes the only way to do a repair.
Some installs were done as if there would never be any need to work on the machine.....a big mistake......

I change those temp sensors anytime I'm inside a 7.5 Onan.
I've seen them with a lot of deposits in the pocket below the sensor.
I think it was from Dex-Cool type antifreeze.....Don't use it !
I use green A/F......

Thanks Rich. You hit the nail on the head, lots of deposits around the sensor. A battery charger it will be with green antifreeze.
